How to get ready for iOS 7

Who's ready for iOS 7? I know I sure am. There are a couple steps in getting ready for it all, though!

iCloud has already been (kinda) released (http://www.icloud.com), but you can't really use it unless you have iOS 7 or OSX Lion v. ll.0.5 So that's not very useful. But it's good to make sure that you have an apple id and that you know the password so that you can go ahead and log into iCloud before hand. If you don't already know the features of iCloud, go ahead and head on over to http://www.apple.com/icloud/. If you haven't heard about iOS 7 (which you should already), then go ahead and look at http://www.apple.com/ios/.

Ok, so iOS 7 will probably be coming out around lunch time. So before then, you will probably want to sync and back-up your device. Down in the bottom righthand corner, it will say "Sync". If it doesn't already back-up your device during the sync, you can manually back it up by option-clicking (right clicking) the iDevice in the menu on the right, and click "Back Up". You should always back up your device anytime you do a software update to your iDevice, just incase if your device doesn't react well to it.

The other reason that you are backing up your device, is because when you upgrade to iOS 7 or any other major upgrade, you should probably go ahead and restore your iDevice to factory settings. The reason is because there might be certain features that are not available with the system settings you have. When you do upgrade to iOS 7, however, it will prompt you if you would like to "Download and Install" or "Just Download". If you want to restore your iDevice first, then just download it. If you don't want to restore your device, then you can go ahead and choose "Download and Install". This will automatically install iOS 7 onto your device.

Another thing that you might want to do before restoring it is to write down all of your preferences. When you restore your device, it will take off all of your settings. A good way to do this is to take screenshots of all of your settings by pressing the sleep and home button at the same time. You can then put those photos into your iPhoto library on your computer, so that after you have iOS 7, you will know what settings you had before.
